CURATORS’ AGENDA: RESEARCH RESIDENCY, VIENNA 2022
Duration: February – November 2022
Location: Vienna, Austria
Curators’ Agenda: Research Residency Vienna / C’A RR Vienna is a research residency program for up to 3 selected international curators whose current practice/research is dealing with a specific topic related to the city of Vienna.
The residency will take place between February – November ’22, offering a 3-month time slot for each participant. During their residency, the curators will engage in both theoretical and empirical research relevant to their own projects. By fostering an insight into the contemporary Viennese art community testifying to the rich historical and cultural layers of the city, BLOCKFREI will provide the curators with a professional network that will further develop through future interactions and promoted cooperation. The final results will be realized as curatorial products (texts/exhibition concepts) that encompass Vienna’s “new heritage”. These results will be presented to wider audiences (in situ or digitally).
As we’ve experienced, the pandemic significantly transformed businesses and professional communities globally, with culture/art being radically affected. Due to the shifted priorities and imposed regulations, international programs such as residencies (implying travelling, physical contact and peer-exchange) were suspended. With that in mind, the “C’A: RR Vienna” is created to meet the current and future needs of cultural professionals both in Vienna and abroad, with the aim to achieve the internationalization and expansion of the local art community on a long-term basis.
By connecting international curators with representatives of the Vienna art scene (via in-person meetings, studio visits, etc.), BF will facilitate deeper insight into each other’s practices, thus fostering a solid base for a long-term connection.
C’A: RR VIENNA program is supported by the City of Vienna and Vienna Business Agency.
