ŠUŠUR! FESTIVAL OF WORDS 2016

ŠUŠUR! FESTIVAL OF WORDS 2016

07. August 2016, 9pm
Square in front of the St Mark’s Cathedral
Korčula, Croatia

In August 2016, the Festival celebrates its 5th edition. ŠUŠUR! Festival of Words 2016 has devoted this year’s program to the socio-political aspect of intellectual migration and associated cause-effects. The goal is to examine the emergence of nomadism in the context of art, primarily literature, and try to find an answer to a question whether the origin of this phenomenon lies in a search for inspiration and adventure, or it is a consequence of the necessity and actuality. The topic of literary-artistic nomads has been present for as long as the literature itself. The discourse of the Festival focuses on examining the impact of migration on the private and artistic development of the individual; how an individual accepts and respects the cultural patterns that are different, and sometimes in conflict with inherited and learned; how such an exchange of cultural experiences is affecting the individuals, etc.

The emphasis is on the issues of origin, belonging and identity in which a language/dialect plays a vital role. The audience will have an opportunity to hear personal testimonies, stories, and fragments by writers, travelers, historians with characteristic immigrant status and (im)permanent addresses. They will discuss their positions as migrants, the artistic process that is determined by nomadism and other phenomena of exchange of cultural patterns characteristic for the ‘life abroad’.

ŠUŠUR! Festival of Words 2016 has a great pleasure to host the following authors: Alida Bremer, Dragana Markovina, Damir Markovina, Igor Štiks, Jerko Bakotin, Marko Pogačar and Seid Serdarević.

ŠUŠUR! Festival of Words 2016 is being realized in partnership with association KULA from Croatia and was supported by the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Croatia and the City of Korčula.
