Curator-in-Residence // Curators’ Agenda: Research Residency, Vienna 2022.
We are proudly presenting our curator-in-residence, Hana Ostan Ožbolt, who was selected via open call in December 2021 in the framework of the program Curators’ Agenda: Research Residency, Vienna 2022.
She has started her residency on the 1st of February that will last until the end of April.
As part of her Curators’ Agenda Research Residency, Ostan Ožbolt is working on a group exhibition, which will present artists from Slovenia in dialogue with the local Vienesse context.
Hana Ostan Ožbolt (1991, Ljubljana, Slovenia) is an art historian working as an independent curator, writer and director of the ULAY Foundation. She obtained her Bachelor Degree in Comparative Literature and German Language and her Master’s Degree in Art History from the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, while she studied at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin for two semesters and completed a 2–year educational programme School for Curators and Critics of Contemporary Art (SCCA), a central programme for practical and theoretical education in the field of curatorial practices in the Balkan region. For her master’s thesis she received the Nahtigal Award, the highest award of the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, awarded to only two outstanding research projects each year.
From October 2021, Ostan Ožbolt is a PhD Candidate (Doktoratsstudium der Philosophie, Abteilung für Medientheorie) at Universität für angewandte Kunst, Die Angewandte in Vienna, Austria, dealing with the body as a medium and its representation in mostly digital contexts.
In the past few years, Ostan Ožbolt has worked for and with several international institutions (museums, private galleries and the NGO sector), including Stedelijk Museum, De Appel, Galerija Gregor Podnar, Aksioma–Institute for Contemporary Art, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, König Galerie, Škuc Gallery, Hestia Belgrade, Richard Saltoun Gallery London, MG–Moderna galerija (Museum of Modern Art), MSUM–Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Slovenian Writers’ Association and Fire Station Artists’ Studios Dublin.
Her recent visible curatorial projects include: BODY ECSTATIC BODY ECLECTIC BODY ECCENTRIC with Ana Mendieta, Annegret Soltau, Arvida Byström, Elena Tejada-Herrera, Iza Pavlina, Jeremy Shaw, Letícia Parente, Marina Abramović, Molly Soda, Sanja Iveković, Ulay, Ulrike Rosenbach (Ulay Foundation Project Space, Ljubljana, September–October 2021); ULAY WAS HERE (Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, November 2020–May 2021, co-curated together with Hripsimé Visser and Rein Wolfs); Ulay: From Berlin to Paris (Richard Saltoun Gallery Online, London, January–February 2021); Double Wall of Silence with Daniel García Andújar, Louis-Cyprien Rials, Driton Selmani, Ariel Schlesinger, Vangjush Vellahu (Škuc Gallery, Ljubljana and Hestia Belgrade, December 2019–March 2020, cocurated together with Anja Obradović); Driton Selmani: Places We Leave Behind (House and Garden of the Slovenian Writers’ Association, Ljubljana, May 2019).
Ostan Ožbolt was also the initiator of HOoST (2017–2019), a framework aimed at supporting and promoting emerging local Slovenian artists while organizing their exhibitions outside the institutional frame/white cube.
