Curators’ Agenda tour with Hana Ostan Ožbolt – Übung macht den Meister (Practice Makes a Master)
NEW DATE: Thursday, 22. December 2022
6 pm – Guided tour
Kunsthalle Wien Museumsquartier
Museumsplatz 1
1070 Vienna
A guided tour by Hana Ostan Ožbolt through Sanja Iveković: Works of Heart (1974–2022) exhibition will focus on the »performative body« and the question of representation while »performing for the camera«, particularly in the works where the artist’s own body is used as a medium to challenge traditional conceptions of gender and sexuality, self-imaging, and the narrative of women’s ongoing struggle for social justice. Growing up in Ljubljana (close to Zagreb) Ostan Ožbolt is well familiar with the powerful practice of Sanja Iveković, who she finds inspirational.
Hana Ostan Ožbolt is an independent curator, writer and since 2019 director of the Ulay Foundation. From 2021, she is a PhD Candidate at Universität für angewandte Kunst, Die Angewandte, in Vienna, researching the notion of »performing for the camera«, the body as a medium and its representation in various (also digital) contexts. In 2021 she curated the exhibition BODY ECSTATIC BODY ECLECTIC BODY ECCENTRIC, which also included the works of Iveković.
The tour is organized jointly by the Kunsthalle Wien and BLOCKFREI.
Hana Ostan Ožbolt was the curator-in-residence at BLOCKFREI’s Curators’ Agenda: Research Residency, Vienna 2022 program (February–April 2022). This guided tour is open to public and marks the final event of Hana’s residency.
